Atlanta’s Parade is recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs as an example of how other communities should pay tribute to our nations Veterans. Although there are many other events throughout the community, the Veterans Day Parade is the main event. The parade begins at 11:11 a.m. in remembrance of the timing of the treaty that ended World War 1. The US Army Forces Command Honor Guard and Band lead the parade throughout downtown Atlanta. They are followed by the Grand Marshal and distinguished guests, Veterans Groups, the Air Force Band of the South and ROTC units. It’s a colorful and musical event that friends and family that will tug at your heartstrings.

In honor of our Veterans, several attractions in Atlanta have extended discounts. The Georgia Aquarium is offering $20 tickets to active, retired, veteran and reserve military personnel and their families Nov. 7 through Nov. 15. Plus, they will get a 10 percent discount in the gift shop. Another event to salute our Veterans is the U.S. Armed Forces Celebration Day. This is a great family-friendly event that draws visitors from all over. Co-hosting the event this year is the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola in Pemberton Place Park. The event is free to the public and the focus is on military appreciation, public support and education. Each branch of the military will be represented with meet-and-greet booths. This is an opportunity for families to honor those serving our country. There will be exhibits and demonstrations like a mock bunker and World War II jeep on display.

It’s important to Atlanta to show it’s appreciation to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. Veterans Day is a day to come and show respect and support for those who have fought, died, been captured or are missing in action in the cause of peace and freedom.
