If your baby is turning one year old, this will mark a very special time in your life. This time seems to take parents from the infant stage to the toddler stage. It is bittersweet and should be as memorable as you would like to make it. By choosing the perfect cake, an appropriate party theme and putting a priority on pictures, your child’s first birthday party is sure to be a blast.

When you start planning a first birthday party, one thing that is usually a priority is a birthday cake. You should plan to have a cake that serves the amount of people you are having at the party, as well as having a small cake that your child can demolish at his/her leisure! You can center the cake around a theme, such as Dora or Thomas the Train, or you can just have it match the colors at the party. Either way, it should somehow match, or fit in, with everything else. A first birthday party has more to do with what you like than what your child likes. He/she likely has no opinion yet, so the sky is the limit! You can also use centerpieces that contain one flower, or one balloon. After all, one year is what you are celebrating. Since your child will not remember his/her first birthday party when they get older, you really should place some emphasis on taking plenty of pictures. After all, this will be all that is left of a birthday party fifty years from now. Be sure to get pictures with the birthday girl/boy with each of their grandparents, parents, special friends, aunts, uncles and friends too. You get the idea. These photographs will serve as great reminders of their childhood when they get older. They will become some of your most prized possessions that help you remember when your baby really was a baby. It is best to designate someone to be in charge of taking pictures before the party starts.
