An engraved glass as a wedding or anniversary is a touching and symbolic gift. The glass can be engraved with a personal comment that holds special meaning for the couple, or it can simply state the couple’s names and the date of the wedding or anniversary, or both. Some etched glassware retailers will even engrave pictures provided as jpg files on glassware. Whatever ends up etched on the glass, the glass itself is a symbol that speaks volumes.
Glass, in its composition and properties, represents the couple’s relationship. Glass is made of silica which, of course, is sand. Millions of tiny grains of sand like the millions of little things that cause a relationship to develop into love. The grains of sands are fused together by the heat of the furnace in the same way that love fuses two people together with the fiery heat of their passion for each other. Each tiny grain of sand fits so well with the others that any roughness is smoothed over, just as the little things are smoothed over by closeness and understanding of a good relationship.
Glass is transparent, as the strongest relationships are transparent. There is nothing hidden in glass or in a loving marriage. All that is inside the glass is revealed at a glance. When two people are in love, they have no need to hide anything from each other; openness and transparency give marriage and fine glassware their true beauty.
Glass lasts forever. It is not diminished with time or age; it does not fade. True love, likewise, does not fade or lose its luster as the years go by. Rather, like a fine wine in that same glass, its character develops and deepens as it ages.
Yet, glass is not unbreakable. If treated carelessly, a single tragic slip can shatter irreparably what was so beautiful. A relationship, though not fragile, can be broken beyond repair by a single careless betrayal. Treated with respect, both will endure through the little bumps.
Engraved glassware preserves the message that is inscribed on it, the same way those special moments that a couple shares are forever etched in their memories and in their hearts. A special champagne flute used during the wedding reception toast, can recall that special moment year after year at a special candlelight anniversary dinner.
Etched glass, like no other gift, symbolizes all the qualities of a beautiful, loving relationship.
